About me

Charlotte Mathiessen

I grew up in Switzerland where I started dancing at an early age. My first steps in ballet got me interested in other dance styles as well, and soon I began training in various styles. My decision to become a professional dancer was a natural consequence of my early first steps and my ongoing interest in dancing.  As part of my studies at the Zürich Tanz Theater Schule (www.ztts.ch) I trained in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Flamenco and more. After graduating, I decided to continue with further education and to specialize in contemporary dance.
In 2012 I moved to Amsterdam to do my Bachelor's in Contemporary Dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK) where I graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Arts. Since I graduated I worked with Emio Greco/PC, Liat Waysbort, Michael Wälti (www.bitebulletdance.com), Niels Wijer, Slanjayvah Danza (UK) and many more. Next to working as a dancer for various choreographers I have also been developing my own work with Chronos.
Besides working as a dancer I have also been teaching 'zouk', a Brazilian partner dance, and have opened up my own dance school, ZoukAmsterdam. From 2013 - 2016 I have been teaching weekly classes to over 150 students. Due to a lack of time for regular classes I still have a great interest in teaching and organize workshops in Amsterdam and abroad.
